Open RoadRoad charge is a funding mechanism that allows drivers to support road maintenance based on the distance they travel or the period of time they use the roads, rather than the amount of gasoline they consume. The California Road Charge Pilot program is looking for volunteers to take part in a nine-month study that launches this summer. The California Transportation Commission will use the information collected to consider whether a road user fee is a sustainable long-term alternative to our current gasoline tax.
