Light Up

The City of Long Beach will embark on a conversion from high pressure sodium (HPS) to light-emitting diode (LED) cobra-head fixtures for traffic safety intersection lights and streetlights beginning in 2016. Why would we do this? This new technology will provide the Police and the Public Works Departments with tools to make intersections and neighborhood streets safer, including the ability to illuminate a community where criminals may be roaming. Phase one will begin conversion of 1,750 traffic safety lights, phase two will include changeover of 24,000 streetlights, and phase three will work to change lighting in parks, beach lots and parking structures as funding permits. This is a great project that will make a big difference in our community. Click here to learn more about the project.
