The American Begonia Society was started in 1932 right here in Long Beach! A handful of enthusiasts led by Herbert P. Dyckman met in Long Beach on a January evening in 1932 with the idea of forming an organization to advance the cause of begonias. These plants could be grown outdoors — some year-round — in California.
Now, the American Begonia Society has more than 2,000 members around the world!
